Makefu village celebrates 30 years milestone of show day

Makefu village also celebrated a milestone of 30 years of their show day

People turned up in numbers at the Makefu Village show day over the weekend. NZ Tourist Anna Schimmel is on her third visit to Niue for a two weeks  holiday celebrating her husband’s retirement.

She was lucky enough  to be part of the show day enjoying the varieties of food and it’s the first time they have seen so many Niueans all in one place.

Similar sentiments were shared by Jenny Ferguson who was here on holiday with her Australian friends. It her first time on the island.

Natural Resources Minister-Mona Ainu’u thanked the people of Makefu for a great show each year, emphasising the importance of the continued support of the Government every year. She also welcomed regional delegates attending the Forum Fisheries Committee meeting this week. 

 Deputy High Commissioner of Australia to Niue-Hannah Kent Spark acknowledged the significant milestone of the village and looked forward to her first uga race.

Makefu village also celebrated 30 years of their show day with the theme “Strive, Persevere,Unity and Integrity-Build the village of Makefu for a prosperous 30 years”  as people enjoyed  the many varieties of food ,root crops, handicraft products, and entertainment by the villagers.
