It’s been several months since the island suffered power disruptions which happened this morning. At around 4am this morning, the power outage affected the whole island, due to a technical fault at the power station
Utilities director Clinton Chapman provided updates on the village council messenger group. The Niue power team worked early this morning to restore power while large generators kicked in to major plants in Alofi like the hospital and Swansons Supermarket.
The national broadcaster BCN’s radio and TV transmissions went dark with no generator for the transmitters at Fonuakula.
At 6.40am the power was restored to the northern part of the island. Power was fully restored to the island at 20 past 9 this morning.
