New recruits excited to join Police department
The duo are excited to join the Police department as they look forward to an exciting career ahead

A team from the New Zealand Police are on the island this week to continue their training with the Niue Police Department under the Officer Safety training program.
Program Senior Advisor-Carrenna Isaac says the training is in two stages with training for new recruits as well as a refresher course for existing officers.

“We realize its a lot to take on board at a short span of time and the new recruits and staff have been engaging enthusiastically. So one thing we have seen in the Pacific and here in Niue is they are willing to learn and take on new things.” Isaac said.
She added its been entertaining especially working with a small group of officers who are engaging and are taking on board all they have learnt.
For 18 year old new recruits, Hannah Fou and Eric Tonga, it has always been a dream to join the Police department as they look forward to an exciting career ahead.
They shared how the training that includes defensive tactics, unarmed combat, tactical communication skills amongst others has been so far.
“Its a good opportunity for us to go through especially mentally and physically, it will help us a lot if anything happens within our community, it will help us a lot in protecting our people and keeping them safe,” Fou said.
Fou is also the only new female recruit for this year.
The Niue Police Force has four new recruits so far, with certificates to be presented today after training completion. The officer’s safety program began in September last year.
