The Scenic Matavai resort has embarked on a initiative focused on changing perceptions about living and working in Niue by encouraging more local involvement in the hospitality industry.
Resort General Manager-James Shilton will be collaborating with several partners to arrange on-island training programmes with Empowerment coach-Marina Taylor from Amplifyou-NZ.

He says the goal is to see Matavai have more Niuean management, reducing reliance on expats.
Shilton has also confirmed the launch of a few scholarship programs for chefs and hotel management courses, accredited through ServiceIQ.
They are currently working with Niue High School to identify candidates for the program, with the hopes of developing future Sous Chefs, Restaurant and Hotel Duty Managers in the industry.
