“And we have already had a lot of conversations with interested stakeholders like the crown council and members of the justice community to understand what the building requirements are needed,” he said.

He added there have been some interesting leanings that have come out of that in terms of design and the need for good space to maintain the archives.

Niue’s Solicitor General-Justin Kamupala told BCN News that this will be a very important and significant development for Niue.

“When we lost the court building and justice department office in 2004 it was quite devastating from which we have not really recovered. The Judiciary as the third arm of government needs to have facilities similar to the legislature and executive, and fit for the purposes of the judiciary as it provides its necessary service to the people of Niue,” Kamupala said.

He said the commitment that NZ has made to build Niue a High Court Building and offices for the Department of Justice is much appreciated and welcomed.

Earlier this month, NZ Foreign Affairs Minister-Hon. Winston Peters announced via their NZ Government website that New Zealand will support Niue with the design and construction of a new justice building in Alofi.
