Ministers attend 2025 Honiara Summit this week

Minister for Natural Resources-Hon. Mona Ainu’u alongside the Prime Minister-Hon. Dalton Tagelagi are currently attending the 2025 Honiara Summit held in the Solomon Islands this week.

The 2025 Honiara Summit will focus on meaningful action and innovation towards achieving SDG14: Life Below Water with a dedicated focus on the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources for our sustainable development.

Minister for Natural Resources-Hon. Mona Ainu’u

Hon. Ainu’u while speaking to BCN News last Thursday said the summit will focus on conservation and marine resources discussions.

“As the Minister of Fisheries, I will be looking at the fisheries component of the regional collaboration and then the Prime Minister will be talking about the international impact and collaboration with our international partners

“So the Honiara summit I’m really hoping we can create some fantastic benefits for our people. I’m also talking about impacts of climate change on small island states. I’m talking fish and how that forecast into the future.” she said.

The 4 day event (February 24th-27th) is jointly hosted by the Government of Solomon Islands and the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) in close collaboration with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for the Ocean-Ambassador Peter Thompson.
