PM Tagelagi commends efforts of our youths at COP29

Last Thursday, Prime Minister-Hon. Dalton Tagelagi co-hosted the Climate Mobility Youth Day focusing on the theme, “Rising Tides, Rising Voices: Pacific Youth on Climate Mobility.”

 In his keynote address, PM Tagelagi emphasized the escalating tide of climate change, a threat that endangers not only our lands but the very heart of our cultural identity.

“Niue remains committed to protecting our land and our heritage, through initiatives like the Niue Ocean Wide, which designates our Exclusive Economic Zone as a sanctuary for whales,” he added.

He said that our marine protected areas aims to safeguard the Pacific’s unique marine biodiversity. 

The Prime Minister called on the global community to honor commitments to loss and damage and support innovative financing to enhance local resilience.

“I commend the efforts of our youth, their work, blending tradition with innovation, strengthens our path forward,” he said.
