And our update from COP29, Prime Minister-Hon. Dalton Tagelagi attended the Pacific Community of Practice to Strengthen Climate Finance Access on Monday.
A collaborative event hosted in partnership with the Niue Government, the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and the Pacific Climate Change Center (PCCC).
Prime Minister Tagelagi emphasized the urgent need for effective climate finance mechanisms to support resilient development in these vulnerable regions.
Niue, with support from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and SPREP, has embarked on its second GCF Readiness project. The initiative focuses on strengthening Niue’s engagement with the GCF and securing climate finance to achieve the vision of a climate risk-resilient Niue, ensuring sustainable use and management of natural resources for present and future generations.
The Readiness Cohort has proven to be a valuable platform for sharing solutions among nations facing similar challenges in accessing GCF resources.
Last year in September, Niue hosted an in-person workshop for representatives from seven Pacific Island countries and the Maldives, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.
He concluded by saying that investing in regional collaboration, we can empower all Pacific Island nations to access and deploy climate finance more effectively, building a sustainable and resilient future for our people.
COP29 comes to an end tomorrow.
