Niue Vaka race draws crowd
The organizing committee thanked every participant as there were many vakas out on the water to celebrate this year’s event with an increased number of women taking part compared to previous years
People braved the rain and cold wind to cheer on and show their support to participants at the Traditional Niue Vaka Race held at the Sir Roberts wharf last Friday morning.
According to the Niue Matakau Vaka Facebook page, here are the results from the four categories:
Open Men’s Event- 1st place went to Lee Poimafiti, 2nd Cliff Limatoa Marsh and 3rd Daifa Kaiyum.
Open Women’s Event –1st place went to Bella Fuhiniu, 2n-’Roxy Damseaux and 3rd place to Cari Fuhiniu.
In the Mixed Relay Event-1st place went to Presley Tiulai Viliamu and Roxy Damseaux, 2nd place to Lee Poimafiti and Karyn Misipeka Misi KaLee and 3rd place to Cliff Limatoa Marsh and Micah Fuhiniu.
And finally in the Fishing Canoe Only Event-1st place went to Poi Okesene, 2nd place went to Matthew Jessop and 3rd place went to Bj Rex.
