Prime Minister Dalton Tagelagi announced the increases to the salaries of public servants at the sitting of the Niue Assembly last month.
The changes will see an increase of more than $1.5 million dollars to the government’s annual personnel budget.
Prime Minister Tagelagi informed the Assembly that the minimum salary for public servants is now just over $20,000 per year.
He said that the increase has been in the planning for some time, working with the Public Service Commission.
The increases to the salaries started in July with the new financial year.
Prime Minister Tagelagi also called on the public servants to work honestly and to respect and follow their obligations and commitment to the public service.
He also announced the increases to the pension for those over 60 years old. The pension has increased to $500 per fortnight
