It’s a time to celebrate together, these were the words of Sauni Puheke when asked about what this month’s 50th Anniversary celebration means to him.
Sauni is from the village of Avatele now resides in New Zealand is here with a group that includes one of the member of his group returning back to the island after 40 years.
“We are here to celebrate together with our Niue people for the 50th Anniversary. It is also a time for me to bring back some of our Niuean people who have lived in New Zealand for 40 years and this is their first time coming back.”
Puheke also took the opportunity to thank all the Niueans on the island for all the handwork and keeping the nation going.
BCN News also spoke with Lian Pihigia of Tuapa who said she is most looking forward to the Youth Raft Race that will be held next Friday at the Sir Roberts Wharf.
“I’m looking forward to a successful constitution and the country becoming more prosperous in the future moving forward.
The Taro festival was held last Thursday, kicked started a series of events for this months 50th Anniversary of self-government.
