The first Niue Research Symposium was launched last Saturday at the University of Auckland’s South Campus in Manukau.
According to a Media Release by Auckland University, the Niue Research Symposium aims to establish a network of professionals and academic students.
Niue has a significant number of diaspora, primarily in Aotearoa New Zealand, with a growing population in Australia and other parts of the world.
Associate Dean Pacific and Associate Professor of Public Health, and co-director of Te Poutoko Ora a Kiwa, Sir Collin Tukuitonga was a key speaker at the event.
Minister for Natural Resources–Mona Ainuu and Director of Climate Change and Sustainability at the Pacific Community-Coral Pasisi also spoke during the event. Minister for Social Services-Hon. Sonya Talagi attended virtually.
The symposium is also a celebration of Niue’s 50 years of self-government this month and was hosted by Te Poutoko Ora A Kiwa and the Centre for Pacific and Global Health at the University of Auckland.
