Renowned Niuean Artist John Pule held a solo exhibition last week in New York.
The exhibition titled Haia meaning“ Leave it at that” was held at the Venus Over Manhattan Gallery in New York.
In a Press Release by the Venus Over Manhattan website, it states the exhibition is a unique opportunity for the American audience to experience the depth of Pule’s dynamic work, enhancing global awareness of his singular vision and practice.
Pule speaking to BCN News said he was grateful for the support from friends in Auckland that happened to be in New York when the show opened and turned up at the event with a few expats as well.
Pule’s work features new paintings from a series produced last year. According to the Press Release paintings such as Takeleaga; Hina; Haia; and Deep Niue Evening showcases Pule’s distinct engagement with both rich, saturated color and evocations of nature.
The paintings compel the eye and draw the viewer into Pule’s fantastical abstract landscapes. A total of 14 artwork were part of the exhibition.
The exhibition will remain on view until October 26, Pule returns to the island next month.
