National Stakeholder Consultation on the future of Starlink Services

People showed up in numbers at the first National Stakeholder Consultation on the SpaceX/Starlink Services that was organized by the Government’s ICT Advisory Committee on Wednesday at the Niue Golf Club.

After the announcement made from the Government Regulator regarding the deactivation of Starlink’s roaming Services across the globe last week, the Government’s ICT Advisory Committee organized a National Stakeholder Consultation regarding this deactivation.
Government Regulator -Andre Siohane told BCN News that the outcome and feedback of the session was good.
A presentation on the work of the Government’s ICT Advisory Committee was shared and an update on the status of Starlink operations and responses throughout the year
Some of the questions raised were on how to obtain a Starlink license, the advantages of using Starlink services as expressed by some users compared to our local internet providers like Telecom Niue and Kaniu.
Telecom Niue CEO-Anurag Tandon explained their operations and the long term investment made by Telecom Niue.
Siohane added the consultation and feedback will help them in making their decisions moving forward.
The global deactivation of Starlink roaming services came into effect on August 22nd,2024 demonstrates the company’s commitment to adhering to countries’ regulations, promoting the responsible deployment of new technology.
This action has been taken as part of their efforts to address the issue of unauthorized users in unlicensed jurisdictions, such as Niue.
Starlink is a satellite internet constellation and is a subsidiary of American aerospace company SpaceX. It provides global mobile broadband with a super download speed of more than 200 megabits per second which is a real game changer for regular internet users.
