Consultation aimed at buildings to withstand future Tropical Cyclones

A representative from the Cyclone Testing Station in Australia was on the island last week conducting a one week Cyclone Wind Load National Consultation with the  various stakeholders focused on buildings that can withstand cyclones on the island

Doctor Geoff Boughton is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Station told BCN News that we need to strongly construct our buildings to resist future tropical cyclones in Niue.

He explained on the objective of the consultation

We will be talking to a lot of people to get the message across of what we have to do to make our buildings more resilient so that when the next cyclone goes through it makes a lower impact to the economy of Niue and the community of Niue.”

After the consultation he will be writing up a report for the Niue Government highlighting areas where Niue can provide the capacity to withstand future cyclones and the impacts of climate change.
