WHO Regional Director hands over new Oxygen Plant to Niue Hospital
The funding for the plant was provided by the European Union (EU) at a cost of approximately $385,000 USD (over $630, 000 NZD) as well as the building in which it was housed.
World Health Organization Regional Director for the Western Pacific –Dr Saia Ma’u Piukala handed over the commissioning of the new Oxygen Plant to the Niue Foou Hospital on Monday.
The plant will boost the productions of essential medicine in the treatment of respiratory diseases
Doctor Piukala says the oxygen system is sufficient enough to meet the needs of Niue with operating training to be provided
The plant was officially handed over to the Minister of Social Services-Hon. Sonya Talagi before he took a tour of the Niue Foou Hospital and had a meeting with Meeting with the Director of Health and Leadership Team.
Director of Health-Minerva Ikimau said this was a milestone to Niue’s health and also acknowledged her hardworking staff.
