Pia Initiative aimed at understanding cultural knowledge
The Pia Niue initiative falls under the Climate Traditional Knowledge component, one of the activities is to make starch from the Pia crop for a local breakfast delicacy called Nane.
A one day workshop aimed at supporting and understanding cultural knowledge linked to climate change for the past and present was held last Thursday at the Millennium Hall.

The session was facilitated by the Niue Meteorological Services and the Government’s Project Management and Coordination Unit for the Ekalesia Kerisino Niue Women’s Group and supporting stakeholders.
The workshop was funded by the United Nations Environment Program Climate Information systems for 5 Pacific Countries (UNEP CIS PAC5) including Niue. About 30 participants were in attendance.
