Niue Government officially opens Honorary Consulate in Tokyo
This significant development marks a new chapter in enhancing the friendly relations between Japan and Niue.
The office of the Honorary Consul of Niue in Japan was officially opened over the weekend at the headquarters of the Japan-Niue Friendship Association in the Aobadai Building in Tokyo.
The Niue Government has appointed Mr. Sean Jayson Vemoa as the Honorary Consul of Niue to Japan in Tokyo with a two-year term effective from July 10, 2024.
Premier Dalton Tagelagi stated that this marks a historic moment and is a testament to the collaborative efforts and unwavering dedication of many remarkable individuals.
This significant development marks a new chapter in enhancing the friendly relations between Japan and Niue and focused on fostering cultural exchanges and friendships between the two countries.
The opening of the office was presided over by Hon. Dalton Tagelagi, Premier of Niue and Minister of Foreign Affairs and it was blessed by Reverend Navy Salatielu, President of the Ekalesia Niue. The Government of Japan and Ministry of Foreign Affairs was represented by Ambassador Toshihisa Takata- Ambassador for PALM10 and the first the first Japanese Ambassador to Niue.
Premier Dalton Tagelagi will also attend the 10th Pacific Island Leaders Meeting also known as PALM that will start from July 16th to the 18th.
The Niue delegation to Japan for the PALM meeting and to open the consulate will include the President of the Ekalesia Kerisiano Niue Rev. Navy Salatielu, Frank Sioneholo and Director of Foreign Affairs Mrs Emi Hipa. The airfares for the three are being sponsored by Mr Taichii Fox. Also attending is Jin Nam Hopotoa of the Niue Ocean Wide Project, and his participation is funded by NOW. Premier Dalton Tagelagi and his officials are sponsored by the government of Japan.
