Japan’s Grant Programme to aid in Niue’s Development Aspirations
Hon. Tagelagi says the grant Aid for Economic and Social Development from Japan underscores the enduring strength of both countries’ partnership and friendship.
Last week, a signing ceremony took place for a grant aid of one hundred and thirty-two million Japanese Yen(¥132,000,000),approximately $1,530,000 NZD under Japan’s Grant Aid for Economic and Social Development Programme (ESDP).
The exchange was signed between Niue Premier -Hon. Dalton Tagelagi and Ambassador of Japan to Niue -OSAWA Makoto held at the Consulate-General of Japan in Auckland.
This year’s Programme has the same focus area of disaster management as in 2018, and Japan has provided disaster preparedness and disaster response equipment.
His Excellency-Makoto says Next year will mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Niue, I strongly wish that this programme will improve recovery efforts when needed along with enhancing well-being among the people and communities of Niue.

He added having just returned from PALM10 and the opening of the Honorary Consul in Japan, he wanted to express his appreciation for Japan’s unwavering support, as this assistance will significantly aid us in achieving Niue’s development aspirations.
The ESDP is intended to support developing countries by promoting its economic structural adjustment efforts including poverty reduction.
