NZ Support remains despite Population decline

The New Zealand Prime Minister-Hon. Christopher Luxon while on his visit to Niue two weeks ago,   commented on the concerns about the declining population on the island and whether New Zealand will continue to support Niue if the population issue does not improve. 

Prime Minister Luxon was clear that New Zealand will remain committed to Niue and will help with infrastructure to encourage Niueans overseas to return. 

In the 2022 Niue Census for Population and Housing Report that was launched in March this year, Niue’s population now stands at 1,681 which is a slight decrease from a slight decrease in population compared to the last Census Report in 2017.
