Weather Ready Program begins in Niue

New Zealand Meteorological Service Representative-Raveen Das  was on the island last week working alongside Niue Meteorological Service to bring up to par the capacity and capability of early warning systems on the island.

Das is part of the Weather Ready Pacific Program that enables Pacific Islands to better anticipate, and respond to, high impact and extreme weather events.

Das’ work involves co-designing the enhancement of severe weather forecasting at Niue Met  Service and also observing workflows at the center last week.

The Weather Ready Pacific Program is focused on advances in forecast and warning systems for weather, hydrological and oceanic events – enabling increased accuracy, geographic specificity and lead time of forecasts.

The program is funded by the New Zealand and Australian Government.

The regional Project will be piloted in Niue, Tonga and Fiji.
