Weather Ready Program begins in Niue
The New Zealand Government funded Weather Ready Pacific Program is focused on advances in forecast and warning systems for weather, hydrological and oceanic events – enabling increased accuracy, geographic specificity and lead time of forecasts.
New Zealand Meteorological Service Representative-Raveen Das was on the island last week working alongside Niue Meteorological Service to bring up to par the capacity and capability of early warning systems on the island.
Das is part of the Weather Ready Pacific Program that enables Pacific Islands to better anticipate, and respond to, high impact and extreme weather events.
Das’ work involves co-designing the enhancement of severe weather forecasting at Niue Met Service and also observing workflows at the center last week.
