Visiting Specialist Encourages Women To Get Checked
Visiting specialist from New Zealand, Obstetrician and Gynecologist-Dr Anna Van der Merwe is back on the island this week.
She is encouraging the local women to visit them at the hospital this week and not to be scared to get a health check especially by a specialists in women’s health.

“I think the women on the island are in good health, but I think some of the women are apprehensive to come and see us because they are scared or worried and I just want to encourage anybody to make an appointment,” she said.
She said it doesn’t matter the concern, big or small we are always happy to see and help.
She will be seeing about 80 to 90 patients throughout this week. Some of the most common issues faced by women on the island is on heavy bleeding.
“So we saw 11 patient on Saturday, yesterday we saw about 19 and today we are booked to see 22 patients and fully booked for the rest of the week,” she said.
Overall Women’s health on the island is good and the women are taking good care of themselves but some of the more common conditions include heavy bleeding.
Dr Van der Merwe is on the island on her annual visit focused on obstetric and gynecologist clinics and other conditions that impact women’s health. She is based at the Te Whatu Ora counties in Manukau. During this visit she is also accompanied by Independent Midwife -Katya Bennung.
