A blast is scheduled to take place at the Government Quarry at Tafalalo tomorrow Thursday 21st March at 12PM to produce rock for the Government of Niue projects.
In a government quarry notice issued last night, roads leading to the quarry will be closed to all traffic and pedestrians 30 minutes before the scheduled blast time.
The blasting will be taking place at locations including the rubbish dump at Tafalalo, the fish factory Amanau and Fuselie hill or lower Huihui road.
All residents and members of the public are requested to stay clear of the quarry.
Blast guards will check before each blast and ask anybody within the exclusion zone to leave.
Parents are urged to take extra precaution for your children to stay clear of the Government Quarry at all times.
The quarry operations will continue as normal until two hours before the scheduled blast where it will be closed to visitors.
Safety measures for tomorrow will include ten minutes before the blast a warning siren will sound. The siren will continue sounding as the area is checked to be clear of people. Traffic on all roads to the quarry will be stopped and held at checkpoints clear of the quarry until after the blast.
