Niue Police undergo Core Basic Policing Skills

Two NZ Police specialists arrived on the island two weeks ago to conduct training sessions with the Niue Police department on core basic policing skills. This is part of an operational policing programme that oversees the realm countries of New Zealand including Niue. Here’s more on this story… 

The NZ Police specialists and Niue Police held training sessions this week incorporating crime scene scenarios such as robbery and domestic violence at Scenic Matavai Resort. 

BCN News spoke with Chief of Police Tim Wilson who shared more about the purpose of the training.

NZ Police of the Pacific Island Prevention Policing Programme (PIPPP) Inspector Brendan Keenan is no new face to the island. He previously visited Niue last year to commence the programme and has returned to conduct this training with fellow colleague Terry Laws. 

Fresh out of high-school and the youngest new recruit to Niue Police Frank Valiana shared his experience with this training.

Yesterday was the final day for training. A short awarding ceremony recognising the completion of the training was held for five Niue police officers presented by NZ High Commissioner to Niue Mark Gibb.
