The United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator-Themba Kalua and the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative-Aliona Niculita were on the island last week presenting their Letters of Credentials to the Premier of Niue and Cabinet.
They are visiting Niue for the first time. Both representatives are based in Samoa and will oversee the Cook Islands, Niue, Samoa, and Tokelau.
The presentation of Letters of Credentials formalizes the recognition of the two UN Offices in Samoa by the Government of Niue.
The UN Resident Coordinators Office & UNDP Samoa Office together with the Government of Niue express their joint commitment to working collaboratively, aligning efforts to achieve national development priorities, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and other internationally agreed development goals and treaty obligations
Niue Premier- Hon. Dalton Tagelagi stated this engagement sets the stage for enhanced collaboration, ensuring that our joint efforts contribute to the well-being and sustainable development of Niue.
The UN Mission held meetings with various government agencies last week and have been assisting Niue to assess and support us in achieving our sustainable development goals (SDGs) and the 2030 agenda.
