The recurring power outages has caused huge impacts on the island resulting in power rationing and even affecting the BCN transmission both for radio and television and Government agencies.
The advice from the Department of Utility is to expect power rationing on the island to continue for the next few days and possibly in the next two weeks as they try to resolve the situation.
The current situation was caused due to the lightning strikes experienced last Friday evening, causing the island to experience power outages throughout the weekend.
Niue Premier – Hon. Dalton Tagelagi speaking with BCN News has apologized to the public for the power disruption calling on everyone to be patient and to help reduce the energy consumption as they try to rectify the situation.
And the Niue Power Update at 12.46 pm today, following the previous scheduling, Niue Power will be turning off power for the North side of the island from Namoui to Liku from 8am to 1pm today.
It is likely that they may have to turn off the whole of the northern feeder if the load is too high.
Then from 1pm to 6pm they will turn off Kaimiti to Hakupu at 1 pm and back on at 6pm
Niue Power will do its best to maintain this scheduled time period and locations, but there will be times when they may require to turn smaller areas off.
A kind reminder to everyone to help minimize power use especially during this hot weather experienced on the island. They also thank everyone for their patience.
