The Broadcasting Corporation Niue (BCN) tower in Fonuakula, Alofi underwent a maintenance check by two Infratel Company workers this morning.
Site Supervisor-Grant Woodall says it will take about an hour to check for any damages on the BCN tower.
“We we are going to inspect the tower to make sure it’s still safe, make some recommendations based on what needs to be done to get it up to standard or recommend a replacement which we hope it won’t be,” he added.
The work will include taking some photos of the tower and then writing a report and sending it back.
Mr Woodall also looked at the earthing on the tower to make sure it’s safe for lightning, as the island had just experienced a heavy downpour and lightning last Friday night.
Meanwhile the 45 meter tower in Hikutavake is now complete and is awaiting the set-up of the antenna’s from Telecom Niue.
Cellular connection in the area is expected to be in operation in two weeks times. Woodall and his team leave the island tomorrow and will be back early next year for another scheduled project.
