Telecom Niue replaces 45 Meter Tower at Hikutavake
The new tower will have a lifespan of 50 years and can withstand a category 5 Cyclone.
Work is currently underway by Telecom Niue on the construction of a third tower at Hikutavake Village. Five Telecom Niue staff and two New Zealanders are currently working on the site.
Site Supervisor-Grant Woodall, who flew in from New Zealand last Saturday, says the 45 meter tower once completed will provide better cellular connection to the island.
Telecom Niue Limited Chief Executive Officer -Anurag Tandon says the new tower will replace the old one that has been damaged over a period of time due to weather conditions affecting the metal, thus deeming it unsafe for his team to climb the tower.
The new tower will have a lifespan of 50 years and can withstand a category 5 cyclone.
Mr Tandon confirmed that it cost about three hundred and fifty thousand dollars as most cost incurred was on civil work. The new tower is expected to be completed in two weeks.
Telecom Niue has two similar towers in Avatele and Lakepa.
