Premier Tagelagi’s delegation of 15 to the 52nd Pacific Islands Forum Leaders meeting in the Cook Islands

Premier Dalton Tagelagi’s delegation to the 52nd Pacific islands Leaders forum arrived safely to Rarotonga last Saturday.

The Niue delegation of 15 was flown directly to Rarotonga from Niue by a chartered Air Rarotonga. According to Fale Fono II the chartered flight was sponsored by a donor partner but did not disclose which donor partner funded the flight, transporting what’s understood to be Niue’s largest delegation ever sent to a Pacific Forum Leaders meeting.

Premier Tagelagi is accompanied by his wife Tanya and their son sixteen year old son Tukala. The Niue delegation also includes the Minister of Natural Resources Hon. Mona Esa Ainuu and assemblyman of Tamakautonga Ricky Makani and Avatele’s assemblyman Pita Vakanofiti.

Secretary of Government Peleni Talagi and Deputy Secretary Gaylene Tasmania are also part of the 15-member delegation, also attending is the President of the Chamber of Commerce Sefeti Fatiaki Adriana who will be setting up a Niue stall, displaying products from the island.

According to the press updates from the government’s media team, upon arrival into Rarotonga on Saturday, Premier Dalton Tagelagi paid a courtesy visit on Cook Islands Prime Minister and Chair of the Forum Hon. Mark Brown.

On Sunday Premier Tagelagi and his wife Tanya attended a church service for the leaders at Avarua. 

On Monday morning the Niue delegation met with the representatives of the People’s Republic of China Special Envoy Mr. Qian Bo and his delegation. The discussions centered on various bilateral matters, reaffirming their commitment to cooperation and potential for shared growth and progress.

The 52nd Pacific Island leaders meeting with the theme “Our Voices, Our Choices, Our Pacific Way: Promote, Partner, Prosper will run until Friday this week. Niue’s delegation will be returning on their Air Rarotonga charter on Sunday morning.
