Last Saturday the second State of Niue Toa Motu rugby league game took off at the Paliati school grounds. And once again Motu came out on top with 35 points to 24 to Tafiti.
Niue Rugby League President Zack Smith says “It was another great game. Motu dominated in the first half with the wind behind them and Tafiti made a comeback in the second half but fell short.”
“More improvement was seen from our young boys. The technique has improved a lot which is looking really tidy and not many injuries because of it.”
“All the training we’ve been doing with the high school kids as well as our senior players has really made an impact on the way the game is played”, says Zack.
The player of the match for Motu team was Delamere Faitala and the Tafiti team was Joshua Poumale. Zack says that these kids really stood out in the game and are improving every game.
Highlight of the day was the young ones getting their confidence up and getting comfortable with the game.
Zack extends his appreciation to everyone that helped make it possible, committee, referees, coaches, Niue high school, players, parents and supporters. It was another very successful day and Rugby League was the winner all round.
The third and final State of Niue game will be on the 18th of October next month but this date is tentative and will be confirmed closer to the date.
