Israel Ambassador to New Zealand His Excellency (H.E.) Ran Yaakoby arrived on the island on Monday afternoon.
Yesterday morning, Premier Hon. Dalton Tagelagi was able to sign a joint communique with H.E. Ran Yaakoby, officially establishing diplomatic relations between Niue and the State of Israel.
According to a government press release, H.E. Ambassador Ran Yaakoby said that “The State of Israel welcomes our new partner in diplomacy as we come together to pave the way for a promising future of friendship, understanding and cooperation between the two nations.”
“This agreement not only strengthens our ties but also reflects our shared commitment to global peace and security to promote innovation, economic growth, and people-to-people connections for the benefit of both our societies,”says H.E. Ran Yaakoby.
Premier Dalton Tagelagi welcomed Israel in its diplomatic relations.
“We open the doors to a future of shared opportunities in areas such as technology, trade, education and cultural exchange.”
H.E. Ran Yaakoby serves as Ambassador of Israel to New Zealand and Non-Resident Ambassador to the Cook Islands, Samoa and Tonga.
According to the Embassy of Israel in New Zealand, prior to his appointment to New Zealand, Yaakoby served as Director for Combating Antisemitism and for Holocaust Remembrance at the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He also served as Minister-Counsellor to Germany – Berlin, Deputy Ambassador to Sweden – Stockholm, and Deputy Consul General & Charge’ d’affaires to Brazil – Sao Paulo.
H.E Ran Yaakoby is married to Debora Yaakoby and they have two children.
