Niue establishes diplomatic relations with Switzerland

Yesterday marked the signing of a new diplomatic relationship between Niue and Switzerland. 

According to a government press release, the Minister for Natural Resources and Special Envoy for the Premier of Niue Hon. Mona Ainuu and Federal Councilor of the Swiss Confederation, otherwise Switzerland, Ignazio Cassis signed a joint communique formalising diplomatic relations between the Government of Niue and the Swiss Confederation. 

The signing took place in Wellington, New Zealand.

This marks another significant milestone in Niue’s diplomatic relations with Switzerland becoming the twenty-third country to sign diplomatic ties with the Government of Niue. 

Minister Ainuu welcomes Switzerland and is confident that this new diplomatic chapter will pave the way for substantial progress and shared accomplishments in various fields.

In his remarks, Federal Councilor Ignazio Cassis thanked the Niue delegation for their presence and cooperation and hopes this journey will bring life to the diplomatic partnership. 

This diplomatic alliance will serve as a platform to address pressing global challenges such as climate change, sustainable development and international security. 

By working together, Niue and Switzerland can lead by example, advocating for effective solutions and initiatives that benefit the international community as a whole.
