Last Friday marked two years since the Australia High Commission in Niue was first established on the 29th of August 2020.
In a statement, Australia’s High Commissioner Her Excellency Ms Louise Ellerton said that it is her honour to represent Australia in Niue.
The opening of Australia’s High Commission here in Niue has helped deepen our relationship and is enabling us to intensify our cooperation.
“The decision to open a mission here in Alofi reflects the importance we place on the relationship with Niue. Being on the ground enables us to listen and learn, ensuring Niuean priorities are at the forefront of how we engage,” said H.E. Ellerton.
“We want to make a uniquely Australian contribution as a partner of choice for Niue. In everything we do we aim to be reliable, show respect, listen and be transparent and open.”
“I would like to extend my appreciation to everyone who has supported the mission over the last two years. Fakaaue lahi!” said H.E. Louise Ellerton.
Australia and Niue enjoy a friendly relationship based on close community links, participation in Pacific regional organisations and shared support for an open, resilient and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
Our people to people connections continue to grow, with more than 5,000 Australian residents having Niuean heritage.
Australia has provided development assistance in Niue for more than 25 years including through scholarships, community grants and funding support for infrastructure projects such as the Niue Primary School, wharf repair and the Fale Fono II.
