Cases are still being detected in the close contacts of passengers from the first and second QFT flights but there were no cases detected from the passengers in week three of the quarantine-free flight last week. The weekly flights from Auckland, New Zealand arrived today bringing one hundred and eleven passengers.
Over the weekend the government announced two new cases were detected on Friday last week increasing the number of active cases from four to six.
Acting Secretary to Government and Director General of Health Gaylene Tasmania, said, “Contact tracing began immediately after the case was detected, and all close contacts associated with the case have been identified. The case and the close contacts are currently in isolation as per Niue’s strict COVID-19 protocols and will be monitored closely by Niue’s health officials.”
The Niuefoou Hospital, Central Service Petrol Station, and Swansons Supermarket are identified as locations of interest from Tuesday last week 12th of July to Friday last week the 15th of July.

Gaylene Tasmania said that “Some close contacts identified are staff members at Niue Foou Hospital. All close contacts have been stood down and are currently undertaking self-isolation. They will be regularly tested and return to work when given medical clearance.”
The message from the government is that “there is little risk to the public, but everyone needs to be prepared for rapid changes in alert levels and stay tuned to official government announcements”.
No new cases were detected in the past 24 hours.
Niue’s National COVID Response remains at Alert Level Yellow because there is no community transmission, and all known cases are currently in isolation.
Since the first case was detected at the border in March this year, 29 cases of Covid-19 were detected from the passengers arriving in Niue and their close contacts, 23 have recovered with 6 active cases.
Passengers from today’s flight will be tested tomorrow from 9 am to 12 midday on day one tests at the drive-through testing and will be tested again on Thursday.
Local residents are also encouraged to get tested at the drive-through testing clinic if they are experiencing flu-like symptoms otherwise call the hospital on 4100 for advice.
