Niue health continues the call for vaccination
The Niue Health Department is again calling for the very few people on the island who have not been vaccinated that the option to vaccinate is still available.
Earlier this week, the health department vaccinated 26 people. One of them received their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine, 14 received their second doses and 11 people took their booster shot.
Head of Public Health Grizelda Mokoia explains that the health department will continue to encourage those who are not vaccinated that getting vaccinated is the best defense against COVID-19.
Ms. Mokoia told BCN news that in dealing with the first cases of COVID-19 who are fully vaccinated and boosted, the symptoms are seen to be less severe compared to those who are not vaccinated.
The first case experienced symptoms of a sore throat and runny nose while the immediate close contact was asymptomatic. The first historical case has now recovered but remains in MIQ.
Children aged 5 to 11 years old will take their second dose of the paediatric version of the Pfizer vaccine on the 12th of April next month.
Niue has one of the highest vaccination rates in the world with 98 percent fully vaccinated with two doses of the Pfizer vaccine and 87 percent boosted with the third shot.
