The Niue Football Association 2021 Seven a side football tournament attracted 23 teams from around the island. The soccer season and tournament officially opened by Premier Dalton Tagelagi at Paliati grounds last Saturday. The day started with the curtain-raiser game by the children 6 to 8 years old in the Alofi vs Niue game.
In the mixed junior’s category, eight teams competed with Alofi 1 taking out first place, second place went to Hakupu/Lakepa and Avatele in third.
In the open women and open men’s competition, the teams from the village of Vaiea were just too good winning both the open womens’ and winning the open men’s competitions.
Five teams competed in the open women’s category but Vaiea women’s team took out the title, Vaiea in first place, Alofi second, and Tuapa third.
Ten teams competed in the open men’s category and Vaiea again dominate the competition taking out first and second place, with Mutalau in third.
The tournament’s best players’ prizes for the junior division best male players went to Izayah Taia, Alesana Pihigia and Apete Kalapu. For the best junior female players, Andriva Sipeni, Peyson Richard-Hipa and Zoey Togiavalu
The best players in the open women’s division were Marylou Talaiti, Malia Vea and Martina Siataga and for the open mens best players went to Foliki, Lafita and Ricky Konelio.
