Man denied bail will appear before the Niue High Court on Thursday

A man in his forties will remain in prison after his bail was denied at a bail hearing this morning.

The Niue Police statement said that the man was arrested over the weekend after an incident that occurred at Tamakautoga wherein a member of the Niue Police was assaulted.

Details of the case are still under investigation and additional charges may result.

The statement said fortunately the officer involved was not injured saying that the Niue Police take the safety of their staff very seriously.

The Police also would like to remind the public that the person of interest here is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The man is expected to appear before the Niue High Court on Thursday.
