Yacht with mechanical problems left Niue yesterday morning
The yacht Farr Flyer which suffered engine problems and was allowed to moor at Alofi bay on Tuesday evening left Niue yesterday morning.
According to the Fisheries department, the yacht left at around 6 am on Thursday morning.
The Police department issued a press release on Wednesday that the yacht which was first spotted by locals off the northern coast of Niue at Uluvehi traveling close to the island and heading south to Alofi.
The Police were able to communicate with the two Australian crew of the yacht to learn that they were having mechanical problems.
They were granted permission to moor at Alofi so they could fix their yacht before leaving. The yacht was closely monitored by Niue Police and Fisheries to ensure the crew did not leave their yacht.
BCN news understands the yacht is on its way to Fiji.
Niue remains closed to all yachts as part of the COVID 19 restrictions.
