Premier Tagelagi join local Fijian community celebrate Fiji’s 50 years of independence
Hundreds of family and friends of the local Fijian Community filled out the Multi-purpose hall at Paliati last Saturday night to celebrate the 50th anniversary celebrations of Fiji’s independence.
The Premier Hon. Dalton Tagelagi and the Minister of Finance Hon. Crossley Tatui were chief guests including the president of the Ekalesia Niue Reverend Nuka Tauevihi.
Premier Tagelagi congratulated the Fijian Community on their home nations 50th anniversary of independence and extended on behalf of the government and the people of Niue gratitude for their contribution to Niue.
In his speech Premier Tagelagi said “I thank you on behalf of the government and the people of Niue for the contribution that you have made. You chose to come here and to work here and to seek opportunities and we welcome you with open arms. Let me say that we appreciate it and we thank you for all your contributions. Not only in government but also in the villages and the community”.
Gabriel Varea the President of the Fijian Community told BCN news today that they were humbled by the support shown by the community and the people who turned up on Saturday evening to celebrate with them. Varea said “Thank you to all who turned up on Saturday to celebrate with us. After Saturday everyone were so happy. Everyone was just amazed at the number of people who turned up in responding to our invitation. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your families and be part of your communities”.
The community put together a big feast to share with their invited guests. And the celebrations continued into the night with dancing and performances.
