NOW hand out free school bags to students
There are 477 very lucky students on the island to have received free school bags from the Niue Ocean Wide (NOW) project last week.
NOW donated 252 bags for the students of the Early childhood and Niue Primary school and 225 bags for Niue high school a total of 477 school bags.
The Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources Hon. Mona Ainuu joined the Board of NOW to hand out the school bags to the students.
Brendon Pasisi Project Manager for Niue Ocean Wide told BCN news that this is part of their efforts to build awareness in the young generation about the importance of sustainably managing and looking after our beautiful pristine ocean.
According to Brendon this follows on from the ocean adventure trips which took place last month when Niue Ocean Wide took 270 kids out to sea. He said they tried to get as many children out to sea but some were not able to.
Pasisi said that it remains a challenge to change the attitudes and mentality in our younger generations towards resources conservation and management here in Niue.
He said that “We are all taught good sustainable practices but we are not so good at following what we learn and know. NOW wants to change this way of doing things in order to maintain our environment and resources for our people into the future”.
