Mutalau impress with their 2020 annual show day

One would think that the locals would be tired of show days this month but that’s certainly not the case. The community spirit is always there and even though it was the third show day in three weeks, supportive locals gathered at Mutalau last Saturday.

The weather held up so the village could put on yet another successful show day last Saturday and they did not disappoint with their displays of beautiful crafts hand women by the women and the carvings as well. The winner of the national carving competitions at the national show day last week is Tutaue Siakifilo from Mutalau.

The food crops grown especially for the day showed the efforts the people of Mutalau when it comes to agricultural produce which also won them second place at the national show.

In his first term as the assemblyman for Mutalau, Maka Ioane said that in the old days, it was the village council that made money on the show day, but it’s now an opportunity for the families to make some money. He encouraged his village to try to generate their own money to support their village projects.

The chairperson of the village council Meleki Tauefasi thanked the people of the village for their efforts and also to the people who turned up to support their show day.

An opportunity also for the village council to ask the government and with the Members of parliament there, Mr Tauefasi asked for the main roads to Mutalau to be tar sealed. He acknowledged the work that has been done thus far but it’s no secret that the road conditions on that side of the island has been an issue for some time.

The show day was officially opened by the Minister of Social Services Hon. Sauni Togatule.
