A total of $55,400 were raised two weeks ago for the Alofi Ekalesia in their fund-raising event to install a Pastors’ Memorial Plaque. The event held at the Multi-purpose hall at Paliati was very well attended by families and friends and the descendants of the former pastors who served the village of Alofi in the past.
The plaque will be inscribed with the names of all Alofi Pastors that served in Niue and abroad since 1869 and other Niue and Samoa Pastors who served in the Ekalesia Alofi since 1852.
According to the organisers (pictured above), the funds were raised from families of the descendants of these pastors as well as the church parishioners and their families and friends living in Australia and New Zealand.
The organising committee of the Ekalesia led by Reverend Navy Salatielu told BCN news in a statement said that “this undertaking is intended to bring all the members of the Ekalesia Kerisiano Alofi residing in Niue and those living abroad together in fellowship combined as a timely reunion for all Alofi residents and Alofi diaspora to witness the unveiling of the Pastors Memorial Plaque which will take place in November 2021”.
The organisers said that they hope “during this process to reunite, re-ignite and enhance the partnership between the Niue based Alofi people and those living abroad to collaborate in future projects for the Ekalesia and Niue”.
The project will also include upgrading of the Ekalesia facilities in time for the reunion and unveiling of the Pastors Memorial Plaque in 2021.
