The Government provides additional support for the Niue Growers Association
The Niue Growers Association was given a boost last week with the opening of a new office space and $30,000 in funding support from the Niue government.
Officially opened by the Minister of Natural Resources Hon. Esa Mona Ainuu and the President of the Niue Growers Association Takili Talagi. The new office is located at the Niue Market building in central Alofi.
In her speech Minister Ainuu said that “The growers have continued to respond to the demand to produce agricultural produce each week and it’s only fitting that the government recognise and reciprocate by establishing proper facilities for the vendors to trade from.”
According to the press statement from the department of agriculture forestry and fisheries, Premier Dalton Tagelagi was instrumental in the revamp of the Niue market and the establishment of this new office.
The Director of the department of agriculture, forestry and fisheries Poimatagi Okesene, also instrumental in the redevelopment of the facility acknowledged the government’s efforts to supporting this development. He says that they will ensure robust processes are established to assist all growers and market vendors.
In July, during the national budget deliberations in the Fono Ekepule, the government announced budget support for the purchase of a bulldozer in response to a request from the Growers Association.
The opening of the new office took place after the annual general meeting of the Niue growers association on Tuesday last week.
