Government is working on employing a Strategic and Economic planner.
Minister for Finance Crossley Tatui says work is progressing to revive the Planning and Economy Management Unit in Treasury and to employ a Strategic/Economic Planner. The preparation will complement the Niue Integrated Strategic Plan 2016-2026.
The Strategic and Economic planner will drive, implement, and manage the plan.
While speaking during deliberations on the national budget in Parliament, Tatui says the Public Accounts Committee has honestly done its work, making sure that the government departments understand their core roles and responsibilities to control expenditure continue to collect outstanding debts and revenue, monitor and reconcile financial expenditure and be accountable for their performances. While at the same time, keeping focus on the goal of Putting People First than their own interests.
“It is regrettable, that this budget lacks detailed information on the key outputs expected to be achieved during the year, due to time constraint. ” said Tatui
A National Planning Consultation Conference with all stakeholders is planned for August and September, Tatui said this is to help stakeholders learn and understand government’s vision and individual goals.
