Former Premier of Niue Sir Toke Talagi has passed away

Former Premier Sir Toke Talagi has passed away this afternoon after a prolonged illness.

The announcement was made by the Talagi family this afternoon online.

“It is with the deepest sadness that we advise of the passing of the Honorable Sir Toke Tufukia Talagi.

Surrounded by his loving family, we are forever grateful to the medical teams of the Niue Foou Hospital, the Auckland City Hospital and the New Zealand Air Ambulance Service, for the unwavering care given to our dearest father, and the Government of Niue for honoring all of our wishes to bring him home to spend his final days.”

The post states due to COVID19 restrictions, his funeral arrangements shall take place once the mandatory isolation period is completed.

“We wish to thank the people of Niue, our families and friends, near and far for their prayers and words of comfort shared with us all.”

Sir Toke Talagi had just returned from New Zealand on Sunday night for medical treatment after he was medevaced last Wednesday night.

Sir Toke passed away at the age of 69 and is survived by his wife Lady Fifita and 4 adult children
