Drawing out of a hat determines Makaseau Ioane as duly elected MP for the village of Mutalau

The seat for the village of Mutalau has been decided through a drawing out of a hat at the Public Service Building.

The drawing was presided over by the Commissioner of the Niue High court Des Hipa on Tuesday, June 3rd.

Makaseau Ioane was tied 26 votes with Maureen Melekitama who has now lost her seat for Mutalau village.

This is the second time for the Mutalau seat to be determined by the drawing out of a hat as it was also used in the 2017 general election.

There are 6 new members of Parliament and only 3 female members of Parliament following the 2020 General Election.
