A 20-year-old man is in custody for alleged rape

A 20-year-old man has been arrested and is currently in custody for an alleged rape incident in the village of Vaiea.

According to Police, they received a report of an alleged rape incident on Sunday, May 24th which occurred around 2 am at Vaiea.

Police state they have been diligently investigating the incident and developed sufficient evidence to make an arrest in the case however this case remains under investigation.

The 20-year-old suspect was arrested and placed in custody at the Niue Prison farm in Fonuakula.

The suspect was also charged for breaching the mandatory 14 days quarantine after returning from New Zealand earlier this month and he was also charged for stealing a vehicle from the Justice Department and fleeing the country last year.
