The National ANZAC dawn ceremony is cancelled this year. According to the President of Niue RSA Charlie Tohovaka, a meeting was held between the RSA, Niue Police, MoSS and the NZHC where the decision to cancel was decided.
Mr Tohovaka said that while Niue may be free of COVID 19, the decision was more about solidarity with the two countries Australia and New Zealand, both countries have cancelled their national commemorations.
He said that while the national dawn parade may be cancelled this year, but the villages may hold their respective village dawn commemorations on Saturday 25th April.
The Public Service Commission has confirmed that ANZAC will not be observed as a public holiday on Monday 27th. According to the Public Service Manual of instructions H3 ANZAC will be commemorated on the day it falls, so if it falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it will be observed then.
Meanwhile, New Zealand has a campaign called #standatdawn#
While the lockdown continues in New Zealand, people are being encouraged to stand at dawn from their own bubble this ANZAC.
The Royal New Zealand Returned Services Association announced that it will, in conjunction with the New Zealand Defence Force, commemorate ANZAC Day services this Saturday 25 April with a 6.00AM virtual Dawn Service.
#StandAtDawn (6am) with your bubble, wear your poppy, your uniform and listen to the special dawn service.
People are being called to stand at dawn in front of the TV, in your courtyard, in your driveway, in your garden or even your balcony.
