The cable installation into Niue is complete for Manatua.
This has been confirmed by Telecom Niue’s CEO Brett Collier.
” Landside installation and CLS installation are commenced last week, as equipment only arrived by boat two weeks ago. The cable installed suffered minor damage due to Cyclone Tino and the repair crews are on island and will endeavor to complete repairs within the next fortnight. ” said Collier
The Manatua cable is expected to go live from June this year.
Meanwhile, Telecommunications executives from the four partner organizations behind the Manatua – One Polynesia Cable have confirmed that the cable lay operations were successfully completed in January 2020.
Starting in Apia, Samoa, further cable landings in Niue, Rarotonga and Aitutaki in the Cook Islands, and Bora Bora and Tahiti in French Polynesia, were successfully completed from November 2019 through to January 2020.
The new optical fiber submarine cable now spans the South Pacific and will transform speed, capacity, resilience and affordability. Manatua is the first submarine cable to connect Niue and also the Cook Islands.
